MACOYA, Trinidad – Rutgers rising junior Dilly Duka (Montville, N.J.) and the United States U-20 National Team qualified for the 24-team 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held from Aug. 24 through Oct. 6, in Cairo, Egypt.
“We are very proud of Dilly for the great job he has done with our U-20 National Team,” said head coach Bob Reasso. “Although now that the team has qualified and we will likely lose him for as many as seven games next fall, there is no higher honor for a player than representing his country.
“Additionally, we may also be without the services of Aly Mazhar for next season as he has already represented his native country, Egypt, on the U-17 and U-20 levels and is in line to be called up for the U-20 World Cup.”
In five matches with the US National Team during the qualifying tournament, Duka earned four starts, tallying one goal and one assist. He also helped the United States clinch its berth by converting on his penalty kick as the US defeated host nation Trinidad and Tobago.
